 Master Sergeant Hegwood was born July 27, 1934 in Plattville, CO. He was raised in Alliance, Nebraska and is a graduate of Alliance Senior High School. He attended Chadron State Teachers College and the University of Nebraska. Sergeant.
Hegwood enlisted in the United States Air Force in October of 1959 only sixteen (16) months after receiving an honorable discharge from the United States Navy. Master Sergeant Hegwood served at Lowry Air Force Base in Colorado, in the 748th AC&W School in Kotzibu, Alaska and in the 439th Services Squadron in Misawa, Japan. Sergeant Hegwood also served at Ent AFB, Colorado, Sheppard AFB, Texas, Korat, Thiland, Anderson AFB, Guam and Andrews AFB, Maryland. Master Sergeant Hegwood was awarded the National Defense Service Medal with 1 bronze star, Army Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 3 bonze oak leaf , Air Force Commendation Medal Viet Nam Service Medal, Republic of Viet Nam Campaign Medal with date bar , Cold War Victory Medal (Commemorative) and the Air Force Commendation Medal.and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Ribbon . Master Sergeant Hegwood was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force on August 1, 1977 following twenty-two (22) years of active military service to the United States. |
