Petty Officer Brammer was born and raised in the Nebraska panhandle community of Bingham. He was inducted into the United States Navy from Cheyenne, Wyoming on May 8, 1943 and received his basic training (Boot Camp) at the United States Naval Training Center (USNTC), Farragut , Idaho.
Following basic training, Petty Officer Brammer was transferred to RB, Pleasanton California where he embarked in USS Schley, APD-14. He served as a Carpenter's Mate Third Class (CM-3) and was also a "Hard Hat" diver.. Petty Officer Brammer also saw duty aboard the USS Bligh, a Buckley-Class Destroyer Escort. Petty Officer Brammer saw combat action during World War II. He was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon, American Campaign Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal with 2 stars and the World War II Victory Medal. On March 2, 1944, the USS Schley, steaming south for New Guinea via Funafute and Guadalcanal, crossed the Equator at latitude 00000 and longitude 173º East. Following two years, nine months and four days of service during World War II, Petty Officer Brammer was released from active duty and honorably discharged from the Naval Service on February 11, 1946 at Fort Miles Lewes, Delaware. |
